The 2,000-watt Honeywell HW2000i surges to 2,100 watts, and its inverter technology produces consistent electricity recommended for running sensitive electronics like computers. It’s compact and light enough to be ideal for camping or tailgating, but can also power several household appliances during a power outage. In economy mode, the engine speed is automatically adjusted according to the electrical load, minimizing noise and fuel consumption. If you don’t need inverter technology and want more power for a little less money, the 3,250-watt Generac 5724 (*Est. $420) may be a good fit.
The Honeywell HW2000i is a best seller at ElectricGeneratorsDirect.com, where editors pick it as a recommended model and owners have posted positive reviews. The HW2000i also receives top ratings from owners posting reviews at Walmart.com and Amazon.com. The Handyman Club of America posts a video of the HW2000i on YouTube.
Anyone reading this will probably want to compare the Hw2000i to the Honda EU2000i, as I did. At my time of purchase there was not much info out there. I decided to give it a try!
First of all the Honda is the king. Lighter and quieter. But at $499.00 delivered… one must put some thought into this decision.
I was cautiously optomistic about ordering this generator after reading some of the previous reviews, however my experience has been a good one so far. Received the generator and set it up per instructions. I noticed that on this updated design there is no priming bulb. Oil, gas, choke and it started on the first pull. I let it run for a while and tested the voltage at 122 volts. I shut it off for about a minute and it started on the first pull again without use of the choke. Seems like Honeywell may have addressed some of the flaws in the previous design. It runs smoth and really quiet using the economode switch.
I  shopped around extensively for a generator that would fit the bill for recreational use and home-emergency use. I didn’t need something that would power a neighborhood, just run a sump pump or a refrigerator/freezer, etc. I read a lot of reviews, and was pretty discouraged by similar output sized generators. The Honeywell seemed the best rated and the most functional, though it was a bit more expensive than what I had planned to spend. I usually go cheap and then regret it later – I learned my lesson with chainsaws – with some things, price and quality go hand in hand. This generator is solid, compact, easy to use (you have to read the instructions, there are no shortcuts), easy to pull-start, and portable enough for the average Joe to carry (though it is pretty heavy when filled with oil and gas). Size-wise, it is bigger than it looks in this picture. It is about the size of one of those extra large old-style hard-sided Samsonite suitcases. It works great, does everything it says it does, delivers a consistent load and starts every time! I think it is a great product and a good value.
I am a truck driver and I bought this generator to power a household window a/c for my truck when I am stopped. I also plan on using it for my engine block heater (1500 watts) in the winter. So far this generator has been great! I have a 5000 btu window a/c, and even on the hottest days the generator runs for 10 hours on a full tank! I was absolutely amazed that this little generator would run that long on 1.5 gallons! Couple of things I have learned so far: When operating at higher elevations 5,000 ft or above it is best to not turn on the efficiency mode. When operating in efficiency mode and the a/c kicks on it tends to overload, or shutdown. Simple enough, leave it in normal mode and operates great! Second thing I learned is to pull the cord nice and slow when trying to start the generator. I usually run the generator until it runs out of fuel, before it took me 7-10 pulls to get it started if I pulled hard after I fueled it up, now if I pull nice and slow it takes no more than 3 pulls. When I don’t run it out of fuel it always starts in 1-2 pulls!!!! For $500-$600 less than a Honda I can deal with a few more pulls and a larger, heavier generator. Don’t get me wrong, Honda is a Great product, but I am thoroughly impressed with this generator.
